Teen Video Game, Anime and Programming Information 4 Librarians!
Why libraries should include video games in their collections

Let’s face it; video games have a bum rap. With lobbyists out there telling the government that video games rot the minds of children, and people saying they contribute to the obesity epidemic in America, it’s no wonder you may have an uphill battle to try to include them in your collections. We are proponents of video games in libraries, and we have worked hard to find information that will help you dissolve negative assumptions about video games and help turn people’s opinions around about how this new form of entertainment and expression is just as important as all those that came before it.

Defense of Video Games in Libraries
We prepared a defense of video games in order to get games in our library. Fortunately for us, it wasn’t really an uphill battle at all. But our preparedness could help you, so feel free to peruse or use our defense.

Articles & Books
A list of articles and books and other resources that may help you make your point.

In our own words
We have personal arguments for why video games are important and why they aren’t just a waste of time. Seasoned video gamers and librarians Megan Johnson, Robert Slater and Jeff Reid explain in their own words why video games are great. We also have some interviews with teens who game to help you understand why they think they are important.

Press Release
Finally, we have some good tips on writing positive press releases once you get games in your collection to cut the critics off at the pass. There is also a nice example of a press release we used for just this reason.
