Da Vinci Code by Jeff

Robert Langdon has just been called to the Louve. It seems there’s been a murder and there are symbols found that need to be explained. As a symboligist, he seems like a good candidate to help the police. Except the police think that he did the murder. All of which leads to loads of suspense, chases, a 2000 year old conspiracy, the paintings of Leonard Da Vinci, and an albino monk.

Sound like a summer blockbuster movie or a best selling novel? Try again. It’s the plot of The Da Vinci Code for Xbox. For the most part, the game follows the novel and movie, but it also expands on them. You have to figure out more stuff than Robert Langdon ever did, and you have to do it while people are hunting you.

Quite honestly, it’s hard to make a book which is dialogue driven into a video game. To combat this, the video game creates new places to go and new things to do which wasn’t in the book or movie. Is it successful? Kind of. The game is mostly one of puzzles and figuring things out, but there is some action and stealth. The puzzles are even more convoluted than in the book or movie, but it works if you don’t think about it very hard. Overall, the game is interesting, especially if you’ve read the book or seen the movie. If you have, you’ll easily decipher what “O lame saint” really means much quicker than someone who hasn’t.

It’s certainly worth checking out from the library. Is it worth the cost to buy it? Probably not.
